LEARN FAQ

What is a LEARN Team?

“LEARN” stands for “Local Education and Resource Networks,” volunteers from local communities who work to support quality early care and education, as well as personal responsibility and choice for Pennsylvania’s families and young learners.

Who are the LEARN Team members?

LEARN Teams are formed by people who represent their community:  parents and other family members of children birth to age 5, school district representatives, early childhood professionals, community partners, county officials or representatives, civic members, and local philanthropic representatives.

What does a LEARN Team do?

Teams help connect families, agencies, and other community entities.  Acting as a grassroots connection, LEARN Teams help network families with the resources they need  to find quality early learning opportunities for their children, and to exercise personal responsibility and choice on behalf of their children.

What are the goals of a LEARN Team?

LEARN Teams support the work of OCDEL (Office of Child Development and Early Learning) by focusing on:  engaging and supporting the efforts of  families of children birth to age 5;  working with school districts, early learning sites, and families to assist children in transitioning into early learning programs or kindergartens; and acting as a local resource on quality early learning opportunities and needs.

Who can join a LEARN Team?

You can join!  Community members who are interested in quality early learning in their communities are encouraged to be part of LEARN by participating in activities such as meetings, distributing information, or taking part in community events such as fairs, kindergarten registrations, or early learning expos.

How can I get more information about LEARN in my community?
